Terms of Use

These terms apply to the Crankovox app for Apple Vision Pro, the Crankovox companion app for Mac (together, "Crankovox" or "the apps"), and this website. Crankovox is developed by Cameron Banga ("we", "us"). By downloading or using Crankovox, you agree to these terms.

1. App Store downloads

Crankovox is licensed to you, not sold, under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"). The Standard EULA governs your use of the apps. These terms add details specific to Crankovox; if anything here conflicts with the Standard EULA, the Standard EULA wins. Purchases, refunds and Family Sharing are handled by Apple under its own terms.

2. What Crankovox does

Crankovox displays the screen and plays the sound of a Playdate handheld that you own, and sends your controller input back to it. It requires a Playdate, a compatible Mac running the Crankovox companion app, and a compatible Apple Vision Pro on the same local network. Crankovox doesn't include, sell or distribute any games.

3. Not affiliated with Panic

Crankovox is an independent app. It isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Panic Inc. Playdate is a trademark of Panic Inc. Please don't contact Panic for help with Crankovox — contact us instead.

4. Unofficial connection method

Crankovox connects to the Playdate using the same USB streaming method as Panic's Mirror app. That method isn't officially documented or supported for third-party apps. A future Playdate firmware update, or a change to macOS or visionOS, may stop Crankovox from working, temporarily or permanently. We'll make reasonable efforts to keep Crankovox working, but we can't promise that it always will.

5. Using Crankovox responsibly

• Use Crankovox only with a Playdate and games you're allowed to use, and follow the terms of any game you play.
• Don't use Crankovox to record, copy or redistribute games or other content in ways their owners don't allow.
• Don't reverse engineer, modify or redistribute the apps, except where the law allows it despite this restriction.
• Be aware of your surroundings when using Apple Vision Pro, and follow Apple's health and safety guidance.

6. No warranty

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Crankovox is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't warrant that Crankovox will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every Playdate, game, Mac, Vision Pro or network. Your rights under the Standard EULA, including any rights you have against Apple, aren't affected.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, game progress, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use Crankovox. Our total liability for any claim relating to Crankovox won't exceed the amount you paid for it. Some places don't allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you.

9. This website

The content of this website is provided for information only. You may link to it freely. Screenshots and the Crankovox name and icon belong to us; product names mentioned here belong to their respective owners.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the effective date above. If you keep using Crankovox after an update, the updated terms apply.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws that govern the Standard EULA, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
