Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Crankovox app for Apple Vision Pro and the Crankovox companion app for Mac (together, "Crankovox" or "the apps"), and this website. Crankovox is developed by Cameron Banga ("we", "us").

Information we collect

None. The apps don't collect personal information, usage data, diagnostics, identifiers or location, and they don't send anything to us or to anyone else.

• No accounts or sign-in.
• No analytics, advertising or crash-reporting services.
• No third-party software development kits (SDKs).
• No tracking across apps or websites, and no data shared with data brokers.

How the apps work

The Mac app connects to your Playdate over USB and reads its screen and sound. It sends them directly to the Crankovox app on your Vision Pro over your local Wi-Fi network, and the Vision Pro app sends your button and crank input back the same way. This stream is never sent over the internet, never passes through our servers (we don't operate any), and isn't recorded or saved.

Local network access

To find your Mac automatically, the Vision Pro app asks for permission to find and connect to devices on your local network, and the Mac app announces itself on that network using Bonjour. This access is used only to connect your own devices to each other. You can turn it off at any time in your device's privacy settings, then connect manually with Connect by Address.

Settings stored on your device

The apps remember your preferences — such as screen palette, upscaling style, whether sound and on-screen controls are on, and any address you entered to connect manually — using standard on-device storage. These settings stay on your device and are deleted when you delete the app.

Game controllers

If you pair a game controller, the Vision Pro app reads its button presses to control your Playdate and shows the controller's name on screen. This information isn't stored or shared.

App Store

Crankovox is distributed through Apple's App Store. Apple may collect information about your purchase and app usage under its own privacy policy, which you can read at apple.com/legal/privacy. We may see aggregated, anonymous statistics that Apple provides to developers, such as download counts and, if you've chosen to share them with developers, crash reports.

This website

This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking scripts. The company that hosts it may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) for security and operations.

Contacting us

If you email us for support, we'll use your email address and anything you include only to reply to you, and we won't share it. You can ask us to delete your messages at any time.

Children's privacy

Crankovox doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live).

Your rights

Because we don't collect or hold personal data from the apps, there's nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete. If you've emailed us and want those messages removed, just ask.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Crankovox handles information, we'll update this page and the effective date above before the change takes effect. If a change means the apps would start collecting data, we'll make that clear in the app's release notes too.
