Crankovox is out: your Playdate, on Apple Vision Pro
Crankovox 1.0 streams your Playdate's screen and sound to Apple Vision Pro, with a small companion app for your Mac. It's free on the App Store.
The Playdate's 400 × 240 screen was made to be held close. I wanted to see it big, so I built Crankovox. It puts your Playdate's screen in your space on Apple Vision Pro, sharp at any size and with sound.
Vision Pro can't connect to USB accessories, so Crankovox comes with a small companion app for your Mac. Plug your Playdate into the Mac and unlock it. The Mac app streams the screen and sound over your Wi-Fi, and Vision Pro finds it on its own. There's no address to type.
You can play with a game controller, where the right stick turns like the crank and the triggers crank forward and back. A keyboard works too, and so do on-screen controls with a crank dial that follows your real crank. Pick Smooth Edges or Pixel Perfect, and the warm grey LCD palette, black and white, or inverted for late nights.
Everything stays on your local network. There are no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. It's free, and one App Store download includes both the Vision Pro app and the Mac app. You'll need a Playdate, Vision Pro on visionOS 27 or later, and a Mac on macOS Sequoia 15.6 or later.
Crankovox is an independent app and isn't affiliated with Panic. Questions and ideas are always welcome at apps@hi.cameron.software.
